Beginner Beekeeping Class

Although Jason has been working with bees since childhood, even he reached out to more seasoned beekeepers before starting his own apiary. He understands that it may be difficult to locate a mentor to provide hands on experience. So, JC’s Honey Bees has decided to offer beginner’s beekeeping classes to those who are interested in beekeeping. Researching and reading books is a good start, but, it is suggested that you attend a hands-on class to see if beekeeping is right for you. So, expect to see the inside of an active hive and handle frames of bees! You will observe Jason complete a full hive inspection, such as identifying eggs, workers, drones, and the queen. Class will be held at our home in Weatherford, TX. Classroom time will consist of a 3 hour power point presentation, then we will proceed to the backyard apiary for the field class portion.

Jason will go over:

  1. Basics of the bee/bee biology
  2. Learn to identify different stages of honey bee development
  3. Roles and responsibilities of the bees in their colony
  4. Necessary equipment
  5. Bee hive components
  6. Hive maintenance
  7. Full inspection of a functioning bee hive
  8. Question and answer session at the end of class
  9. HANDS ON EXPERIENCE IN THE APIARY

Cost – $99.00/person for a 4 hour class.  This is NONREFUNDABLE, so please ensure that you will be able to attend your scheduled class date. Once your payment has been received, you will receive a confirmation email within 48 hours. Please check your spam folder. For any questions contact Christina, class coordinator, at christina.jcshoneybees@gmail.com.

This is a great class for those who are interested in starting beekeeping, if you have purchased your first hive, or if you want the experience of seeing the inside an active beehive. Also, this is a great class for beekeepers in their second or third year who want to see how an experienced beekeeper moves through the hives. Jason has presented to home school groups, beekeeping clubs, beekeeping seminars, and WISD for adult education. He is also in the Texas Master Beekeeping program. Jason’s love and passion for bees is shown through his unique and charismatic style of teaching. There will be a maximum of 15 students per class to ensure that all have a great experience.
